Note: Hand Colored Photos
Hand colored landscape photos have a pleasing effect with muted shades of
color. Photos are hand colored using a technique of applying oil based
transparent paint to the black and white photograph. The paint is applied
with cotton and blended over the image without obscuring the image. The
detail work in small areas of the photo is then applied using colored
pencils. Prior to color film, hand coloring was widely widely used in
photography. In years past, this process was also used to color high
school senior pictures.
